Former Golden State Warriors general manager and president Bob Myers has stepped into an interim role overseeing basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, following the team’s decision to part ways with Daryl Morey. The move was announced Tuesday evening, with Myers agreeing to guide the franchise until a permanent replacement is found.
In his first comments to the media after taking the position, Myers addressed the passionate Philadelphia fanbase directly. “I know how much the 76ers mean to the City of Philadelphia, and it’s important we find the right leader to shape the future of this team,” Myers told the Philly Voice. “The process will start immediately, and we will be thorough and deliberate in our evaluations. I believe this is a destination for top talent across the league and look forward to solidifying our infrastructure moving forward.”
Myers brings a championship pedigree to the 76ers, having built the Golden State Warriors into a dynasty anchored by the backcourt duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Now, he faces a new challenge: constructing a competitive roster around Philadelphia’s own dynamic young backcourt of Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. The interim GM’s experience in player development and team culture could prove invaluable as the 76ers aim to return to contention in the Eastern Conference.
